Visitors to Tinga-Tinga…

Okay, so the cottage we are living in is called Tinga-Tinga, which means ‘Tractor’ in Swahili. The story is that one day, several years back, a tractor actually ran into the cottage destroying a fair portion of it. When it was rebuilt, it was renamed Tinga-Tinga. Generally, in Africa, everything is named the way it is for a reason, either some story or meaning is associated in naming places and people.

A few weeks ago we had some visitors from the States, Grand Rapids, MI in fact. Larry Hoff, who is a long time family friend of Jessica’s family, and Charles Roost were in town for two weeks training pastors and key lay people in Biblical stewardship. Jessica and the kids were able to spend some good time fellowshipping with Larry and Dr. Roost and it was a real joy to see them and spend time with them.

A couple of days later, Steve Ike and part of his family (Nansie, Conor and Alex) came to visit while passing through town for several meetings. Steve is my counterpart in West Africa with EE, serving as the Regional Director there. He also works as a Director for Compassion International, doing some amazing work with children in that area. It was wonderful to see their family again. They have been instrumental in pointing us to God when we had questions about His calling to move to Africa. Steve led our Short Term Missions trip in West Africa when I first sensed God calling us into full time ministry.

It is wonderful to have familiar, loving faces visit us in our new home. Praise God for the encouragement that they bring. Some people in our positions don’t have a single visitor during their entire term. We’ve already had several. He is so Good!
